Vintage Univox Ripper w/ Original Case***Japan Made by Matsumoku - Strat Style Guitar***

***Highest Line Univox Model in Rare Natural Finish! ***

This is from my personal collection of vintage guitars. Before I describe my guitar let me tell you it is not from an Estate Sale, nor is it being offered to you by an antique dealer as a thrift store find. Too many instruments seem to be up for auction these days from people who have no clue how it really sounds or plays thrown up for bids wearing 20 year old strings, with the insistence it’s beautiful to look at and “must be high quality”.

Hopefully I will answer all your questions whether you’re a beginner or a pro. If you’re a beginner print this auction and take it to someone you trust for verification.

Now about the instrument….

This was the highest line and one of the most desirable guitars ever offered by Univox. The appeal comes from the nice strat style body and the 3 proprietary humbucking pick-ups that were wound for ultra high output. These pick-ups (which were used in other models such as the Hi-Flier) are good sounding and unique. You will have no problem with sufficient output, as anything higher than 6 on the dial can overload my amp. Whether you want clean or honest tube distortion, the volume knob is all you'll need.

Condition.

The guitar is in very nice overall condition. I have provided 28 well lit photos and I think they tell the story of condition better then I can. There is no weather checking and the finish is glossy and polished. There are some nicks, marks and one good wear/ding on the lower edge where the guitar falls off your lap when being played sitting down. Its been used but kept clean, polished and in its case.

The fret board is extremely nice with very minimal wear to the frets. The neck is set up nicely with beautiful action I think you’ll be impressed by just how playable this guitar is. All positions fret cleanly, and the neck is straight. It is equipped with a bullet adjuster for the truss rod.

The guitar comes with the original tremolo bar, ash tray cover, and the plastic back cover. I've noticed at least one of these item seem to be missing every time one of these comes up on ebay. This one has everything, with no issues. All chrome plated items are in very nice shape as are all the plastics.

I have been playing guitar for about 18 years and in my estimation this is one of the best playing and sounding of the 1970's wave of imitators. The neck is comfortable and very fast. The tone is rich, and can be tailored with a good deal of selections. Since everyone on eBay says this about their item, rather than take my word for it I think it’s better you just hear for yourself. Since its a 1970's instrument I play it with sort of a jazz / 70's funk chording. It's great to recreate that sound. I also cycle all the pickups in the video.

Maybe you can play better then I can (that would be easy), or maybe worse, but I hope this clip illustrates that the instrument is very willing if you’re good enough. If you don’t have a high speed connection you may want to visit someone who does, this will take a while with dial up.

Now that you’ve heard it, I’ll just say that the sound quality of a little compressed video, can in no way compare to the live instrument, but I hope that gave you at least some idea about it.

The case included with it is the original Univox case that fits it well and is in excellent shape.a plush lined quite protective thermoplastic case.

That’s about all I can say about it. It’s a superb looking and playing instrument that will surely br...
